- You give the unit price in addition to the total price: unambiguous, clearly visible and easy to read (§ 4 Abs. 1 PAngV).
How is it calculated?
The quantity of all packs is added up: quantity per pack × number of packs. If the pack states a drained weight, that counts.
The quantity is converted into the unit of § 5 PAngV: g to kg, ml to l, cm to m; m² and m³ stay.
Unit price = total price ÷ quantity in kg, l, m, m² or m³. For loose goods also per 100 g or 100 ml.
FormulaUnit price = total price ÷ (quantity per pack × number of packs, converted)
Examples
- 250 g for €3.49 → €13.96 per 1 kg (loose: €1.40 per 100 g)
- 6 × 330 ml for €5.94 → €3.00 per 1 l
When the unit price can be left out
- Nominal weight or volume under 10 g or 10 ml (§ 4 Abs. 3 Nr. 1 PAngV).
- Goods made of different products that are not mixed or blended together (§ 4 Abs. 3 Nr. 2 PAngV).
- Cosmetic products used solely to colour or beautify skin, hair or nails (§ 4 Abs. 3 Nr. 7 PAngV).
- Perfumes and perfumed toilet waters with at least 3% fragrance oil and at least 70% pure ethyl alcohol by volume (§ 4 Abs. 3 Nr. 8 PAngV).
- For household detergents, the unit price may be given per usual use (§ 5 Abs. 5 PAngV).

- In some cases the unit price can be left out, for example under 10 g or 10 ml, or for cosmetics used only to colour or beautify; the list is under ‘How is it calculated?’ (§ 4 Abs. 3 PAngV).
